What’s the deal with these e-cigarettes anyways?

I first learned of E-cigarettes about a year ago. Because my friends were well aware that I was a heavy smoker, several of them approached me from time to time to show-off their new e-cigarette discovery. However, I wasn’t interested in considering the possibility of quitting smoking at that time. Since then, I stumbled upon some articles online and realized that perhaps I should take a 2nd look at them.

Recently, I began researching the cost of electronic cigarettes and the cost of maintaining this type of investment. E.g. how much does it cost to use these compared to smoking on a regular basis. The price was obviously considerably less than I was currently spending but the “up front cost” really set me back. Basically, it appeared that $100.00 is the true start up cost if I was to get serious about trying this new product out.

As a result of the cost, I decided to see if there was a way to try out the product for a much lower price. I found one e-cigarette which got rave reviews and only cost about $30.00 to get started and it included 5 cartridges (about the equivalent cost of 5 packs of cigarettes) so I figured the cost would be a “wash” if I actually used all 5 cartridges. Needless to say, I took the plunge and placed my order.

The e-cigarette world is very different than the traditional smoker is used to. I had a hard time believing that I would actually enjoy different flavors compared to the traditional tobacco flavor of my cigarettes. I was wrong. I enjoy the flavors a LOT more than traditional tobacco. The other huge advantage of the e-cigarettes is that it allows me to fully customize the nicotine level, (from 0-48mg), customize the flavors and to even customize the physical appearance of my e-cigarette.

All of this new flexibility is great but it doesn’t mean very much unless the e-cigs really allow me to switch over from regular cigarettes. I spoke to several close friends and they all knew people who had switched to e-cigarettes. Most of those who had switched had quit smoking altogether (including e-cigs) in a few months after making the switch. This intrigued me. so at that point, I had to give e-smokes a serious try.

In all fairness, it takes some adjusting and it is a fairly large learning curve required to make this switch. However, I found that compared to trying to quit smoking through traditional means, the effort is well spent.

I now have a total of $110.00 invested in the entire system I’ve chosen and that includes all of the various chargers, 4 different types of e- fluid, extra mixing bottles to customise the flavors and additional empty cartridges and all of the supplies I need to save about $200.00 in cigarette expenses over the next few weeks. Thus, the switch has paid for itself and actually put money in my pocket. I will now continue to save over the cost of traditional cigarettes from this point on.

So how do you go from smoking cigarettes to smoking only e- cigarettes? This is the greatest part of all! Keep…
