Golf buggy crashes 30 metres down cliff on Hamilton Island, leaving four men injured


Two men have been airlifted to hospital after a golf buggy crashed down a cliff on Hamilton Island on Monday afternoon.

The Queensland Ambulance Service was called just after midday, with the lone paramedic on the island responding to the crash.

QAS acting officer-in-charge on Hamilton Island Garry Mathieson said it was “a chaotic scene” after the buggy carrying four men careered 30 to 40 metres down the embankment.

Two of the men were airlifted by the CQ Rescue Helicopter in stable conditions to Mackay Base Hospital.

A man in his late 20s had a head injury, while the second man in his 30s had a significant arm injury, back and leg pain, a laceration to the head and a possible chest injury.
